On Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 10 a.m. for the St. Louis Genealogical Society meeting at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters Dorris Keeven-Franke will share why Germans were attracted to Missouri and hear stories of the places they settled in the State.
In 1829, Gottfried Duden published a small book called A Report on a Journey to the Western States that told Germans about this fabulous state of Missouri! Thousands followed his advice and soon Missouri was one of the most German states in America. Hear stories of the Germans that followed Duden, why they settled here, and where they made their homes, and how during the Civil War it was Missouri’s Germans that kept us in the Union.
Keeven-Franke has been writing about Missouri’s German immigrants for over 25 years and is Executive Director of the Missouri Germans Consortium.
