At Lindenwood University, the exhibit The German Heritage of St. Charles in the Spellmann Center will open on Sunday afternoon, October 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.. The St. Charles County German Club’s exhibit tells the story of the beginning of German emigration to St. Charles county after Gottfried Duden’s Report on a Journey to the Western States of North America was published in 1829. It explains the reasons the waves of emigrants chose Missouri: the freedoms, available land, and lots of fellow Germans.
