Missouri Germans Consortium

Today we spend day traveling from Saint Charles to Giessen. I must first go to St. Louis Airport, then we fly to Chicago. Have nice dinner. Then we must wait a bit for flight to Frankfurt. We will then go by car to Giessen. All totaled I will have packed and traveled in a day! The time difference does help.

I think often of the Society and how it was for them. At least I have not arrived at the Airport and been told there is no plane. I can only imagine when Muench’s group arrived in Bremen, only to be told by Delius “there is no ship, go home”.

And what Follenius would have done to have an email with the Utopia Newsletter attached, giving him the latest news! We fuss when we can’t find wifi, and the terminal is so big that it takes 10 minutes to get from one gate to another.

Am Dienstag war es so weit: die Ausstellungsstationen vorbereitet, die Kisten und das Archiv gepackt und alles im Container verstaut. Am Freitag erreichte der Lkw unseres Sponsors BLG Logistics Group die erste Station der Ausstellungsreise „Aufbruch in die Utopie“, Gießen. Im KiZ (Kultur im Zentrum) macht sich nun das Team der Reisenden Sommer-Republik daran, alles an den richtigen Ort zu stellen, die Fotos aufzuhängen und die Videoinstallationen einzurichten.

Auch Dorris Keeven-Franke ist bereits auf dem Weg nach Deutschland zur Ausstellungseröffnung. Die Historikerin und Journalistin ist Archivarin der St. Charles County Historical Museum and Archives und leitet seit 2009 die Aktivitäten der Sommer-Republik in Missouri. In ihrem Blog lässt sie Interessierte an ihren Eindrücken teilhaben.

Esther Steinbrecher hat ebenfalls einen Blog eingerichtet, der über die Aktivitäten ihrer Reiseagentur und Angebote von „Muss i denn Tours & Cargo Trips“ auf dem Laufenden hält. Das Reisebüro folgt den Pfaden der Ausstellung und bietet Mitreisenden die Möglichkeit der Buchung einer Auswanderung auf Probe.

“UTOPIA” ON THE WAY

On Tuesday the time had come: exhibition stations had been prepared, boxes and the archive packed and everything was stored in a container. On Friday the truck of our sponsor BLG Logistics Group arrived at the first station of the traveling exhibition “Utopia”, Giessen. The Traveling Summer Republic team is now busy positioning every detail, hanging pictures and setting up video installations.

Also Dorris Keeven-Franke is already on her way to Germany. The historian and journalist is the archivist for the Saint Charles County Historical Museum and Archives and directs the activities of the Traveling Summer Republic in Missouri since 2009. People interested can follow her impressions in her blog.

Also Esther Steinbrecher started a blog about her travel agency „Muss i denn Tours & Cargo Trips“ (currently in German only). Her travel agency will follow the route of the exhibition and will offer opportunities for an emigration on trial.
