In 1829, a small book titled A Report on a Journey to the Western States of North America, in the years 1824, 25, 26 & 27, by Gottfried Duden, extolling the virtues of the new State of Missouri, and the Missouri River valley, opened the floodgates to the waves of emigrants to Missouri.
