Missouri’s history is filled with stories of hundreds of thousands of Germans who emigrated here. Missouri’s German heritage is embodied in those stories of Germans from all walks of life, that came from small villages to huge cities, rich and poor, and from its northernmost villages to the southern hillsides. This heritage makes us strong, determined, family orientated and patriotic. Our motto of Show-Me portrays our determination, and desire for a better life for our families and future generations. Our German ancestors worked hard to build upon that dream, first spun by Gottfried Duden, who saw our State as the best opportunity to build that better life.
