An interesting evening with Gottfried Duden author of A Report  on a Journey to the Western States of North America published in 1829 and celebrated his 222nd Birthday!

Guest speaker Steven Rowan, from the University of St. Louis will join Dorris Keeven-Franke in a reading from the first edition of Duden’s book, which opened the floodgates for German emigration to Missouri. Keeven-Franke will share how Duden came to settle in the Lake Creek Valley along the Missouri River across from Washington, Missouri. Discussion on his book and his life will follow.  The program will be held in the  beautiful Chapel at RockyVine Camp, in Dutzow, Missouri, which is the site of Duden’s original farm that he purchased for his stay here in Missouri.
