The Society for German-American Studies will hold its 39th Annual Symposium in St. Louis, MO, 9-11 April 2015. The theme of the program this year is: “The Heartlands – America’s Most German Region”
…where the Traveling Summer Republic’s exhibit Utopia brings this nearly forgotten story alive at the Missouri History Museum, where it has enjoyed over 40,000 visitors since it opened last November 23, 2014. Gottfried Duden will be a program by Dorris Keeven-Franke, at 2:30 pm on March 15, 2015 at the Missouri History Museum. She is currently finishing the biography, to be published later this year, of the German who authored A Report on a Journey to the Western States of North America, and opened the floodgates on German immigration to Missouri.
Utopia arrived, just as those early German emigrants did, in St. Louis, Missouri on November 23, 2014. The Missouri History Museum has done a tremendous effort to bring German emigration alive to thousands of visitors. The shipping crates have opened, and the many audios and videos bring the story alive. However, the exhibit will close its doors on Sunday, April 19, 2015 and leave St. Louis forever.
From Bremen, Germany, nine young students have come to St. Louis, following the route of the Giessen Emigration Society just as the Exhibition Utopia-Revisiting a German State in America has done. They are sponsored by Kultur vor Ort in Bremen, being hosted by the St. Louis -Stuttgart Int’l families, and they are here to meet the Teens Make History at the Missouri History Museum.

If you would like to meet the Tandem Guides, they will be performing in the Utopia Gallery on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 2:30 pm.. They have been studying their English in preparation, and are nervous about their first trip to the U.S. and performing.
