What City are you Friends with?

Has your town or community established a friendship with a town in Germany?  We want to hear from you!

Every year, a group called the St Charles County German Heritage Club which has been picnic-2around for over 50 years holds their annual picnic inviting friends to meet their members and enjoy some good old Gemuthlichkeit! The St. Charles Sister Cities Inc is a spin off of this group and is already celebrating their 20th Anniversary this year. Sister Cities International twins several cities in Germany and in Missouri every year. But we know that there are several cities in Missouri, large and small, that have established their own friendships between Germany and Missouri, such as Melle Germany and New Melle, Missouri. Do you have such and organization in your Missouri Community? WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Here is a video of the St. Charles County German Heritage Club’s Annual Picnic on YOU TUBE

UTOPIA RESCHEDULED FOR FEB. 11 AT 7PM

DUE TO BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS THE SHOWING OF UTOPIA HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY, FEB. 11 at 7 pm!  The St. Charles County German Heritage Club, a partner with the Traveling Summer Republic for Utopia – Revisiting a German State in America  has announced the documentary Utopia will be shown at Stegton’s Regency Banquet Center in St. Charles, Missouri on Wednesday evening, February 11th at 7 pm.

German oriented activities or speakers are featured regularly at their meetings. A few times during the year they gather for special celebrations, for example, a one-day bus trip to a German ancestral town or an event; an annual picnic in the park; the Oktoberfest celebration and dinner/dance; or a gala Christmas party. The St. Charles County German Heritage Club began in 1973 by a small group of St. Charles residents.  The club’s goals are simple:  to share traditions handed down by our German ancestors, to preserve the history of German settlers in St. Charles County, to foster understanding of German customs and culture, and to generally promote Gemütlichkeit among members.  Additionally, through guest speakers and other activities, they strive to promote German language skills; understand Germany’s economic, political, and social structure; and have fun in the process. Regular club meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 7 pm at Stegton Regency Banquet Center, 1450 Wall Street, St. Charles, Missouri 63303 (near OfficeMax and Sam’s Club).

The club takes advantage of the wealth of German heritage throughout our county — and along the Missouri Weinstrasse; in other nearby towns with Germanic connections such as Hermann, New Melle, Augusta, St. Louis, Maeystown, IL; as well as the cultural information available at the German Culture Center at the University of Missouri St. Louis, Missouri History Museum, Deutsche Kulturverein in south St. Louis, among others.
