Today you can visit maxim-films and enjoy the film Utopia via Video on Demand. Or you can enjoy a gallery of photographs recalling the traveling exhibition Utopia – Revisiting a German State in America as it began in 2009….
Finding one’s family treasures is always an awesome discovery for family historians! As the Utopia project began, I felt that if so much could be learned from the papers of Friedrich Muench, how much more could be learned about the plans, dreams and lives of the Giessen Emigration Society members if all of the memories and writings of all five-hundred plus members could be in one location. And so began my quest to find descendants of as many members as possible.
The exhibit Utopia – Revisiting a German State in America opened November 1, 2013 in Giessen Germany. It was shown in Bremen Germany, Washington, D.C., and St. Louis Missouri. Finishing at the Missouri History Museum on April 19, 2015 it was visited by over 75,000 people worldwide.
Over 50,000 visitors have seen it since it began its journey, and the response has been fantastic everywhere it was seen. it is the story of emigration and of our German ancestors.
