Karneval is the Fifth Season

There are different words in German for the Carnival or “Mardi Gras” Season: Karneval, Fasching and Fastnacht. Although all three refer to the same pre-Lenten holiday season, they each reflect the regional customs and traditions in Germany. Missouri Germans have immigrated from all over Germany for the past 175 years. The Fifth Season in St. Louis is most commonly referred to as Karneval and will begin on the 11th of November !

Ludwigsburg Philharmonic Choir

On August 25, 2016, over 45 choir members of the Ludwigsburg Philharmonic Choir will arrive in Saint Charles. Hope Lutheran Church (1975 South Old
Highway 94) in Saint Charles is hosting the Choir with the assistance of the Saint Charles Sister Cities Inc – the German Chapter – and the City of Saint Charles. The German Chapter in Saint Charles is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year.

Pauline’s Diary

Her journal entries share the births, the marriages, the Civil War, the good times and the sad. How the loss of her son left her with an inability to write for three years. She bore 13 children, adopted 2 others, and raised 3 children of her husband’s sister after their mother’s death. Pauline’s diary gives us a rare glimpse into the life of a German emigrant woman during the 19th Century in Missouri.
