President Barack Obama has proclaimed October 6, 2016 German American Day! This day commemorates the date in 1683 when 13 German families from Krefeld near the Rhine, landed in Philadelphia. Those families subsequently founded Germantown, Pennsylvania, the first German settlement and organized the 1st petition in the colonies to abolish slavery in 1688.

Hello, I would like to invite you to St. Louis’ German-American Day celebration on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from noon until 5pm at the St. Louis German Cultural Society’s Hall at 3652 Jefferson Avenue. Whether you come from Germany, your family did, or you just enjoy your German heritage, there is something for everyone.
